Identify yourself as the controller
This guidance does not identify the creator on your behalf. Publish your real name or business name, contact details, relevant TikTok account, Instagram account, YouTube channel or X account, chosen lawful basis and any additional recipients or retention rules on your own notice page. Link that page from an accessible place such as your profile. Complete any required legitimate-interest assessment, including the impact on younger people and sensitive disclosures; do not treat publicly posted comments as unrestricted data.
Suggested description of the moderation
We use CommentCare to help detect spam, scams and selected unwanted content on our TikTok videos. The tool receives accessible comment text, usernames, identifiers, reply relationships, video captions and timestamps through TikTok’s authorized API. AI classification helps decide which comments to hide. We can review and restore eligible comments; automated detection can be wrong. This moderation is not intended to make decisions about your employment, finances, health or access to essential services.
CommentCare processes this information on our instructions, using hosting and AI providers described in its privacy notice. These services may process data outside the EEA. Processed comment text and usernames expire from CommentCare’s active history after 90 days from collection; minimal decision and duplicate-prevention records remain while the account is connected. This does not delete the original comment from TikTok. If we use CommentCare’s iPhone app, it also gives us a weekly and a monthly summary of what people commented, written by AI from a sample of comments and shown only to us; a summary is deleted after 90 days.
On YouTube, we have added CommentCare as a moderator of our channel. It reads the channel’s comments and replies at intervals, assesses them with AI under our settings and removes unwanted comments; YouTube holds removed comments for our review, and we can restore them in YouTube Studio. Comment text and author names are deleted from CommentCare 90 days after collection. Removing CommentCare does not undo a removal already made on YouTube.
On X, we have connected CommentCare to our account. X sends it the replies to our posts as they are posted; it assesses them with AI and hides replies it identifies as spam, scams, bots or impersonation. A hidden reply stays on X behind “hidden replies”, and we can show it again. Reply text and usernames are deleted from CommentCare 30 days after they were received. If we show one of your hidden replies again, CommentCare keeps a note of your X account identifier, without anything you wrote, for up to a year so that your later replies are not hidden again for repeating our post.
On Instagram, we have connected CommentCare to our account through SocialAPI, a service that links Instagram to CommentCare. New comments and replies on our posts and reels are passed to CommentCare as they are written; it assesses them with AI under our settings and hides comments it identifies as spam, scams or other content we have chosen to filter. A hidden comment is not deleted: it stays on Instagram, out of public view, and we can show it again. Comment text and usernames are deleted from CommentCare 90 days after they were received.
Explain how people can exercise their rights
Include your own contact for requests concerning access, rectification, erasure, restriction or objection. Where you rely on legitimate interests, state the actual interest and the right to object based on the person’s particular situation. Account for Article 14 information requirements where data is obtained indirectly. People can contact hello@commentcare.app for help identifying the relevant creator, without creating a CommentCare account.
